I spied some extremely fresh Cornish Herrings otherwise known as Silver Darlings on the fish counter this week. I can remember Herring was over fished and then a ban from fishing them was placed in the late seventies. By the time the ban had been lifted what was a supper time treat had been forgotten about. Which is a shame as when as fresh as these were, its a lovely tasty treat, cheap (£1.57 for these two) and has lots of lovely fish oils.
And apart from anything else, its rather a beautiful fish, wonderfully adorned with the finest of silver leaf.
